From Pokfield Road to the Peak

From Pokfield Road to the Peak

I have long heard that there is a path going up the Peak from Pokfield Road.  On this sunny day I finally had the opportunity to try this route.

At the Pokfield Road Bus Terminus, look for a long flight of stairs up next to the gas station.  At a near 45-degree incline, these paved stairs will lead you to the path up the Hatton Road Morning Trail.  Hang in there, for my pedometer recorded 17 flights of stairs on this section alone.

The trail then eased into a gentle incline after.  It was a continuous climb though, for the rest of this path until you reach Harlech Road and the Lugard Loop.

The trail was not overly interesting.  As with the Hatton Road Morning Trail, it is more about the exercise and the fresh air than the views.

Interestingly enough, I passed by some grottos.   People have placed flowers there and I saw a hiker pray at this site.

Soon after the grottos I headed up the Lung Fu Pavilion hoping for nice views of the harbor.

Although it was not in any way exceptional, I was glad I took this detour.

When you are at the next crossroad, take the Hatton Road Morning Trail and Pinewood Battery direction.  I have previously written about the Pinewood Battery.  Just follow the Hatton Road Morning Trail and it will lead you to the Peak Galleria via the Lugard Loop.

These are the views on Hatton Road.

Google map says that it takes less than an hour to reach the Peak Galleria on this route.  However, the initial stairs were quite a bit too strenuous for me.  I also took my leisure time with the slopes that followed, all the way up the Peak.  Along with a quick stop at the Lung Fu Pavilion, I ended up reaching Harlech Road an hour and fifteen minutes later.
